21 June 2008 - Amateur Photographer Magazine

In this issue of the magazine I had one of my images published in the Gary McNamara's Critical Eye section. Gary wrote the following about the image below which I took with my Bronica ETRSi Medium Format camera.

Captured on a beach in Devon, Mark's picture is a perfect illustration of one of my oft-repeated bits of advice about landscape photography - if you try to get in the whole scene, you will struggle to convey the half of it. Take a slice, make it large and you might say more than a big picture ever could. Mark has included enough telling features to set the scene, yet with an unusual viewpoint and this format, which usually emphasises landscape over still life, he still manages to include elements of still life and indeed abstract photography. So when you next tackle a landscape, as well as looking at it remember you are standing on it.
