21st  October 2008 - Legion Race Day at Exeter Racecourse

In August 2008 I was contacted by a representative of the Royal British Legion regarding my images which they had seen at my exhibition at The Wharf in Tavistock earlier in the year. They were given the task of sourcing donations for the silent auction taking place as part of the Legion Race Day at Exeter Racecourse and noted that I was ex Royal Air Force so asked if I would like to donate one of my images.  I agreed as the Royal British Legion do a fantastic job for serving and ex serving forces personnel and so arranged for them to come to my house to collect one of my images.

I had decided to donate a framed panoramic image called Thurlestone dawn. When they arrived and saw the image I had decided to donate they were very impressed with the image and very grateful for the donation.  I couldn't make it on the day so asked if they could let me know how it all went.

Thurlestone Dawn

Sometime after the event I received an e-mail. They said it went really well but said it was evident by the bidding that the "recession" was having an impact and bids weren't as high as they hoped. They went on to say that the young man who had the winning bid was absolutely delighted and was going to hang it on his bedroom wall. My image didn't raise as much as I had hoped but I was still glad that I had made a donation to a worthy cause.
